A Community
Benefit Society
Driving decarbonisation and building community wealth through clean energy projects in the Sheffield City region
CAPITAL AT RISK
Any money you invest in community shares is fully at risk. You could lose some or all of your money. This share offer is exempt from, or outside the scope of, statutory
financial promotion regulations. Investors have no recourse to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) or the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS).
We’re incredibly excited to announce that our very first Community Share Offer is ready to launch!
That means you can become an investor in local, community-owned clean energy - whilst supporting a fantastic Sheffield-based family-owned dairy farm and ice cream producer, Our Cow Molly.

Community Investment
Sheffield Energy Works is a new Community Benefit Society, empowering residents of the Sheffield City Region (whether individuals, families or small businesses) to become the owners of clean energy assets.
We’re currently developing a number of projects, including our flagship decarbonisation model at Our Cow Molly. We’re excited to be working with local farmer Eddie Andrew to deliver two clean energy technologies at the farm, which will meet about 90% of the farm’s energy needs.
The technologies will be owned by members of Sheffield Energy Works, who will get to invest in local community-owned clean energy, support the decarbonisation of a brilliant local business, and inform how profits are back into the community. This will be through a benefit fund and investment in future community energy projects - more information on our pipeline of projects below.
Our other community energy projects
We’re working with Europe’s biggest privately owned home - Wentworth Woodhouse. The Preservation Trust which runs the estate are passionate about all things sustainability, and have worked brilliantly to engage the local community in education, heritage, sustainability, and the ongoing legacy of the house.
Like Our Cow Molly, this is a multi-technology approach: our current feasibility study is exploring how integrated solar energy capture systems across the land, outbuildings and main building can complement an anaerobic digester (processing garden and food waste) and mine water heat recovery from the house’s coal mines - which are right on the doorstep!
Sustainability & the Heritage Sector
Feasibility Stage - funded by North East & Yorkshire Net Zero Hub Community Fund
Abbeydale Pyrolysis
Feasibility Stage - funded by North East & Yorkshire Net Zero Hub Community FundAlongside circular economy specialists Mottainai Institute, we’re investigating the potential for decarbonising arboriculture operations in Sheffield - namely intercepting waste streams, and converting wood chip into carbon-sequestering biochar, energy and other exciting byproducts.
This project is at early stage feasibility: we’re working alongside pyrolysis experts, biochar & soil scientists at Newcastle University, and with pyrolysis plant manufacturers to assess what’s best for the site, whilst building relationships with local stakeholders to ensure the neighbouring businesses and community benefit from the project.
Virtual Power Plant
ASSIST Sheffield works with people who are seeking sanctuary. We’re working with the housing charity to improve housing conditions for their residents and reduce costs, including through retrofit measures such as insulation and clean energy.
We’re currently building a project to examine how we can support energy generation and sharing through a community-owned model.
